EDTC 5153: Computer Based Instructional Development

In this course, we built on to the concepts from Facilitating Online Learning. I created an educational website entitled College Survival Guide. In the beginning phases, I performed a learner analysis and created a graphic organizer of the site. Afterwards, I focused on embedding multimedia experiences and interactive elements. Finally, I performed UX testing with my intended audience, and made the appropriate adjustments.

Learner Analysis

  • Understanding

These students should have some prior knowledge of learning strategies since they are out of high school. However, I know that levels of college preparation vary significantly. For this reason, I will try to keep the material easy to understand for students with limited prior knowledge.

  • Demographics

These students will likely fall into many different age categories, but my primary target will be traditional college students fresh out of high school.

  • Interest

These students will be looking for help navigating college coursework. They will be looking for resources pertaining to study strategies, time management methods, and more.

  • Environment

They will access the course from home more than likely as it will not be school-sponsored.

  • Needs

The audience needs an easy-to-navigate website that teaches strategies for college success. They will need to have basic website navigation skills.

  • Customization

The primary focus will be on student success strategies. However, I would also like to create a sense of community via a forum. I believe having a sense of community can increase retention.

  • Expectations

The audience can expect to learn a variety of strategies to increase their success in college. They will be able to easily find resources to address any pain points they are experiencing while in undergrad.
